(no subject)

Therapy only works when you talk.

No.. really? Shocking.

[identity profile] questionorigin.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Make a stupid statement, get a sarcastic reply.

[identity profile] questionorigin.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
The entire point of therapy is talking. Why would you waste your therapist's time and your money to not talk?

I am completely within my rights to consider anything I choose to stupid and to express that I consider it stupid.

That's what the doc tells me, but I still think it's bullshit.

I don't know. I kinda sit there and stare at the floor. He watches me with this unamused, unimpressed tone of face. Then the hour's up and I'm outta there.

Yeah, once when I was little and then again a couple of years ago.

[identity profile] reportresurrect.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Both times. Especially last time.

[identity profile] reportresurrect.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I bet it's hard for everyone in the beginning. Therapists are used to that. It sort of goes against our basic natures to just start talking like that.

[identity profile] reportresurrect.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
My therapist told me that people get out of therapy what they're willing to put in.

[identity profile] reportresurrect.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Then you'll be great.

[identity profile] luthor-lineage.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well then, my favorite topics would include fast cars and fencing. Yours could be decor.

[identity profile] reportresurrect.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
With a topic list like that, my advice would be avoid any strictly Freudian psychologists.

[identity profile] luthor-lineage.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. All that coming from a man who once said that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

[identity profile] patricia-swann.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
No hide and seek? I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

[identity profile] luthor-lineage.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'd blame the meteor shower and a lapse of memory, but the truth is, I do remember that. Or at least, I think I do.

[identity profile] animus-nocendi.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's hard to believe, I know.

[personal profile] hero_farmboy 2008-09-17 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Bah. It's things like that that keep me from going to talk to anyone.

...okay, maybe that's not why I don't go to therapy, but you get the basic idea.

It was your first appointment. Don't give up so quickly. I doubt the majority of people are non stop chatterboxes the first couple of times. Just let yourself get used to it and when you're relaxed and comfortable enough, you'll talk.
hero_farmboy: (concerned and listening)

[personal profile] hero_farmboy 2008-09-17 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Good. I think it'll be worth it if you give it a chance.

[identity profile] patricia-swann.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's very true and it normally takes several sessions before you tell comfortable enough to bring up important issues.

[identity profile] patricia-swann.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's perfectly normal. At least, that's what my former therapist told me.
