That's the thing. I think maybe he's trying. It's not exactly something he, or anybody in his family, is used to. Or even something any of them have done before. I think he does.
He asked me something once, and it's what I've been wondering about this whole time. Do the words mean anything if they're easy to say?
Is that what he asked? Then he feels it and is worried his inability to say it is going to cause him to lose you.
You have to look at what love means to you and if he's doing it. Is he there for you when you need it? Is he there even when you ask him not to be? Do you feel loved around him, even if he never says it?
...Sometimes. He's been there for me at times, and others he's...in Monaco at his father's hotel, or who knows where else. But for the most part, he's there even when I tell him not to be. And...sometimes.
How do I know, then? He's not the best at showing it, by any means. I'm not sure he knows how. Unless trying to break my last boyfriend and I up was the way he did it.
I think it's different for everyone. Maybe he doesn't know how else to show it. After all, the words themselves can seem like a lot, but they're always just words. Like promises, they can be broken.
Do you think, honestly, deep down, he does love you?

I'm not one to say them often, or easily. My last love was the same but I knew he did. Do you know he does?

An old friend of mine asked me if the words mean anything if they're easy to say.

I don't think he's ever tried to say them to anyone else.
