They have to be. They communicate with each other- form social groups, react to stimuli, they adapt.

That's not what sentient means... is it?

Having sense, perception, conscious

How can they do those things if they aren't sentient?

They don't think, exactly... mammals might.

They don't think the way you think, or I think, or some people think.

It's simple thinking, at best.
