I'm sorry to hear that..

She had.. a breakdown.. when we thought my father died. He was gone five years, and she's just.. started coming back alive. Then this happens and I have to ruin everything..

She... I don't know what her issue was, but she left my father shortly after I was born. Became a nun.

I think you can't look at it like you're the one ruining anything. This other man is the one who ought to be held responsible.

It was a long time ago. I think in some ways it wasn't so bad. My father did the best he could and I turned out all right.

I'm glad to hear that your father did well. That helps. My parents.. Well. It's one of those "they did the best they could" things here too. Neither.. Well. Neither of them probably should have ever been parents, but they did a pretty good job.

Please. Explain to me how having to break this news doesn't make the one ruining everything.

He struggled with... certain aspects of parenting, but he did all right. I think he wanted me to do make up for all his mistakes in a way, which can be hard to deal with. I'm glad your parents did a good job.

It makes you the messenger. The bearer of bad tidings. But you can't be blamed for things that happened prior to your being born, Duela.

Parenting is always a struggle, from what I understand. I'm glad he did what seems to be at least a decent job.

Yeeah. Ever heard the "Shoot the messenger" approach? That's the kind of.. er.. personality my dad has. "Shoot the messenger" THEN "shoot the person(s) responsible for the message."
