You'd better be. There's still the silver in the dining room to finish and the brass in the drawing room wants looking at before his Lordship gets back. One of the maids have made a proper mess of it. [None of which Thomas has any intention of doing himself, of course. He has his own duties to perform and he'd sooner see to them than help to make sure William isn't run completely ragged.]

That's enough to be getting on with, at least 'till the family get back. [Sitting himself down at the table, he busies himself with taking a small tobacco tin from the pocket of his trousers and rolling himself a cigarette. Oh, poor, naive William. Thomas isn't one to do anyone any favours, especially not without the clear understanding that he expects a favour in return.]

[He nods towards the row of newly polished boots.] I'll see to them.
